The latest updates from Verbo
We’re delighted to share an article in Headteacher Update by Verbo’s very own Hannah Cook. ‘SLCN: Seven common signs and some in-school intervention’ explores the signs to look out for in a busy classroom that might suggest a pupil is struggling with their speech, language and communication, and some easily implementable tips to support them.
FYI: New pupil transfer feature
We are pleased to introduce a brand-new feature to Verbo – Pupil Transfers! This new feature has been designed to make transferring pupils from your setting to another Verbo setting easy and efficient.
If you have a pupil moving to a new setting or a cohort transitioning to primary, secondary or post-16, speak to your Verbo Setting Lead who can initiate the transfer for you. If you have any questions or would like to provide some feedback about this feature, please contact us at hello@verboapp.co.uk.
Sector news

National Literacy Trust’s new report highlights the need for access to an integrated pathway of speech, language and communication support from 0 to 18.
The National Literacy Trust recently launched a new report into oracy, called ‘Creating confident communicators: How the government can help every child find their voice’.
Last year, nearly a third (31%) of five-year-olds began primary school without the necessary language, communication, and literacy skills to thrive—a figure that rises to nearly half (47%) for children from disadvantaged communities.
With these vital skills missing, the report outlines 10 steps the government can take to help every child ‘find their voice’. These include prioritising speech, language, and communication (SLC) outcomes by age five and ensuring these skills are integrated across all phases and subjects in the reformed national curriculum.
We agree! We are committed to providing useful tools to education staff so they feel confident in supporting SLC development at a whole class, small group, and individual level.
